About the trip
Varkala is a seaside town north of Trivandrum, where red laterite cliffs drop straight onto the beach. Pilgrims come for the Janardhana Swamy Temple and ritual bathing at Papanasam Beach, while others come for the cliff walk, cafes and sunsets. The drive runs up NH 66 or the coastal road through Attingal and takes around ninety minutes.
