About the trip
Ranthambore, near Sawai Madhopur, is one of India's best-known tiger reserves, with dry forest, lakes and a thousand-year-old fort on a hill inside the park. Most people come for jeep or canter safaris and a chance to see tigers, leopards and sloth bears. From Jaipur the drive heads south-east through Tonk district. It can be done as a long day with an afternoon safari.

Take the road via Chaksu and Lalsot or via Tonk to Sawai Madhopur. Book safari permits online well ahead; the park's core zones close from 1 July to 30 September.
