About the trip
Tanjore, or Thanjavur, was the seat of the Chola empire, and its Brihadeeswara Temple, finished over a thousand years ago, still stands as one of India's great buildings. The town also holds the Maratha palace, the Saraswathi Mahal library and workshops making Tanjore paintings and dolls. From Trichy it is under an hour and a half on a four-lane road through Vallam.
