About the trip
Srivilliputhur is the birthplace of Andal, the only woman among the twelve Alwar saints, and her temple's gopuram appears on the Tamil Nadu government emblem. Devotees come for darshan at the Andal and Vatapatrasayee temples, and nobody leaves without the town's rich palkova. From Madurai the drive heads south-west through Thirumangalam and Kalligudi, and the grizzled squirrel sanctuary lies close by.
