About the trip
Pudukottai was a small princely state, and today its district holds some of Tamil Nadu's most interesting early rock-cut temples and cave paintings. History lovers visit the Jain cave at Sittannavasal, the music inscriptions at Kudumiyanmalai and the hill fort at Thirumayam. Others travel for family, business or colleges. The drive from Madurai goes north-east through Melur and Thirumayam.
