History and significance
The temple is dedicated to Lord Jainath and is counted among the more important places associated with Jain worship in Telangana. Its most valuable feature for historians is an inscribed stone, written in Prakrit and containing twenty slokas, which offers a window into the language and religious life of the period in which it was carved.
Local tradition assigns the building a very early date, though the exact period is debated, so it is best enjoyed as a long-standing place of worship rather than for a precise founding year.
What to see
The structure is modest in size, with careful carving on its stone surfaces and a well-proportioned plan. The sanctum is dim and quiet, and many visitors simply sit for a while before moving on.
Take time to look at the inscription and the carved details on the outer walls; they are the reason most heritage enthusiasts make the trip.
Festivals
The busiest period is between Karthika Suddha Ashtami and Bahula Saptami in the Karthika month (usually October–November), when devotees gather for rituals and the village takes on a festive look. Mahashivaratri and Karthika Purnima are also observed. If you want to see the temple at its liveliest, plan around these dates; otherwise weekdays are calm.
Tips for your visit
Dress modestly and remove footwear before entering the shrine. Facilities in the village are basic, so carry water and snacks. Adilabad has a railway station and is the most practical base; hire a taxi or auto for the short drive. The cooler months from October to February are the most comfortable time for sightseeing in this part of Telangana. We can add Jainath to an Adilabad itinerary that also covers Kuntala Waterfalls.
