The legend of Ragigudda
Ragi is finger millet, a staple grain in Karnataka, and gudda means hillock. According to local legend, a great heap of ragi turned into stone here, giving the hill its name. It is also said that Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva visited the spot and chose to stay on as three stone pillars, which devotees still worship today.
Festivals
Hanuman Jayanti, observed in December in the Karnataka tradition, is celebrated over twelve days with abhishekams, homas and special pujas, and the decoration theme changes each year. Free meals are served to thousands of devotees during the festival. Rama Navami and Navaratri are also marked with special rituals, along with regular weekly and monthly pujas.

More than a temple
The temple trust runs a range of community services, including free medical camps, a library, a book bank, student coaching and classes in yoga, meditation, music and Vedic chanting. A goshala, or cow shelter, is also part of the complex. This gives the hill a busy, lived-in feel beyond the hours of worship. Please dress modestly and remove footwear before entering the shrine.
Timings and how to reach
The temple is open from 8 am to 1 pm and from 5 pm to 8.30 pm. It is easy to reach by city bus, auto or taxi from anywhere in south Bengaluru. The nearest main railway station is KSR Bengaluru City Junction, and Kempegowda International Airport is on the far north side of the city. We can add Ragigudda to a south Bengaluru temple tour with Dodda Ganapathi and the Bull Temple.
