About the fountain park
The park opened in 1996 on land that once belonged to the LRDE defence research complex, and it covers roughly 17 acres. The state's horticulture department manages it, so the lawns, paths and trees are well looked after, and there are shaded spots to sit while you wait.
The Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium stands just across the road, so the two are easy to combine in a single afternoon and evening.
The show
After dusk the coloured lamps switch on and the jets are programmed so that the water moves with the rhythm of each track, sometimes slow and graceful, sometimes quick and dramatic. Coloured lighting and multimedia effects add to the display.
The soundtrack usually mixes Indian classical pieces, popular film songs and familiar Western tunes, so the mood changes from one segment to the next. Children in particular tend to enjoy it, and the open lawns give them room to move about before and after the performance. Carry a light jacket in the cooler months, as evenings in Bangalore can turn breezy.
Tips for your visit
Aim to arrive a little before sunset so you can walk around the gardens while it is still light and find a good spot before the show starts. Show schedules and ticket prices change from time to time, and there may be no show on some days of the week, so confirm locally before you set out.
Traffic around Raj Bhavan Road is heavy in the evening rush, so allow extra time if you are coming from the outer parts of the city. We can include the fountain and the planetarium in a Bangalore city tour with a car and driver.
