About the trip
Alleppey, or Alappuzha, is the centre of Kerala's backwater country, with canals, paddy fields below sea level and a long beach with an old pier. Most people come to spend a day or a night on a houseboat, or take a shorter shikara ride through village canals. From Kovalam the road runs north along NH 66 through Kollam, passing coastal towns and churches.
