About the trip
Athirappilly is Kerala's largest waterfall, where the Chalakudy river pours over a broad rock face into a forested gorge. Visitors come for the viewpoints, the path down to the base and nearby Vazhachal and Charpa falls. From Coimbatore the drive crosses the Palakkad gap on NH 544, then turns off at Chalakudy through plantations into the forest.

NH 544 via Walayar, Palakkad and Thrissur to Chalakudy, then east to the falls. Leave by 6 am; the forest road closes to traffic after dark.
