About this trail
This one-way trail lies inside the Kalakad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve, the largest protected forest in the south of Tamil Nadu. It starts at Karaiyar near the Mundanthurai range office and runs about 4 km through evergreen forest and past open water to Moolakasam. On clear days the view opens towards Agasthya Peak, the tallest point in the area.
At around three hours with no hard climbing, it suits beginners and families who want a real forest experience. Birds and butterflies are plentiful, especially near the water. Keep noise low, since this is tiger country and the guide sets the pace. October to March is the best window.

Good to know
These are guided trails run with the Tamil Nadu Forest Department, and each has a daily limit on walkers. Book a few days ahead, carry the same photo ID you booked with, and expect a trail to close at short notice after heavy rain or when elephants are active nearby. We book the permit, arrange the car to and from the start point and, if you want, a hotel nearby for the night before.
