Rajahmundry is the base for the trip. Operators take you by road to the boat jetty, where brightly painted launches wait to carry travellers upriver on a journey of roughly 65 km. Within a short time of setting off, mobile networks fade out, and the rest of the day is spent watching sandbanks, blue water and forested hills slide past.

The most dramatic part comes in the last couple of hours, as the river narrows between the Papi Hills. Most cruises are day trips that return the same evening; some continue towards Bhadrachalam for pilgrims visiting the Rama temple there.

What to see in Perantalapalli

The boats stop near the village, where you can walk among tribal homes and see daily life along the river. An old Shiva temple stands close by, beside a small stream that stays cool through the year. A local market sells bamboo handicrafts at fair prices, good for souvenirs. Spend a little time strolling between the houses; people are welcoming, and the pace of life is unhurried.
